Have you ever wondered how some people seem to get so much done day in and day out but you put in a solid day and feel exhausted? How does everyone else do it?!
I’m letting you in on a little secret today because the truth is, I used to be in a constant state of exhaustion. Burnout was where I ended up after working 16 hour days doing what I thought I was *supposed* to do in my 20s to work my way up the career ladder. I was really proud of the work I was doing but that niggling feeling of anxiety, frustration and overwhelm was something I couldn’t shake. Not to mention the exhaustion!
I vowed that I wouldn’t let those feelings creep back into my life or work again and started taking back control. How did I do that? It wasn’t easy but these 3 rules help me ensure I boost productivity and reduce the chance of me getting burnout again.
If you want to get more done and feel less fatigued, change your environment. Having space to breath, room to think and time on my own is the key to me gaining control and clarity over my goals and what I need to do. Seriously, nothing says getting away like an island in the Indian Ocean!
Crowding in more of the things that stimulate my mind do so much for my mental state than social media. Long form articles in magazines and my Kindle are really great to get your brain ticking and see things for a new perspective.
Finally, prioritizing myself has never done me wrong. In business and in life (especially now I’m a mum!) I need to be at my best and that means taking two days out. Burnout is a killer, literally. But I now control my energy levels and reap the benefits of putting myself first like a trip to Four Seasons Maldives.
