The 3 Things You Need For An At Home Spa Treatment

Honestly, is there anything more enjoyable than a day spent at the spa? I think not. But, I don’t always have the time to spare or the budget so I’ve put together easy ways you can recreate a relaxing spa-like experience at home. From treating the bump to rewarding yourself after a long week or even pampering your skin after traveling I’ve rounded up my three favourite products that will have your skin feeling gorgeous, without breaking the bank and keeping the bump healthy.

Get into the zone with candles, soothing music, dim lighting, a cozy robe, a glass of cucumber water…it may sound simple, but these little add-ons are what make even the most mundane beauty rituals feel special and spa-like. (An interesting point about music selection: Pick instrumental songs, rather than tunes with words. The lyrics can trigger subconscious memories, upping your stress level, without you even realizing it!)

Bio Oil – Loved by Kate Middleton and Priyanka Chopra

Hydrating your skin immediately after stepping out of a shower is such an easy and quick full body treatment, and for this, Bio-Oil is top of my list. I’ve previously used it on scars and to treat dehydrated skin after travelling, but it has become a staple ever since I found out I was pregnant. I’ve been slathering it on boobs, bump and bum every morning without fail, and my skin is glowing at the moment without any signs of pesky stretch marks! Bio-Oil is the number one skincare product recommended by doctors and midwives around the world for pregnant women because it keeps the skin hydrated and supple and ingredients work to maximise the skin’s elasticity, reducing the possibility of pregnancy stretch marks forming.

It includes six natural plant extract oils in its makeup, not bad for a product that’s the number one best-selling scar and stretch mark product in 24 countries. Bio-Oil combines natural ingredients including calendula and soybean oil, which both have regenerative effects and can deeply nourish damaged and sunburnt skin – a go-to source of the Chinese for more than 4,000 years, soybean oil has unique nutritional benefits for your skin and makes it super smooth and soft.

Pumpkin Enzyme Mask – Smells amazing and works every time.

There’s no doubt that a good face mask is a quintessential skincare indulgence. This mask had me at its smell; it’s literally like pumpkin pie. Bliss! I was introduced to this Peter Thomas Roth by my friend Bre (she’s a beauty guru) who gifted me one of the travel sized bottles of this beauty and every time I use it I feel like my skin has been transformed. You apply a little onto clean, damp skin and let it work it’s magic for 3-7 minutes. It’s slightly tingly on my sensitive skin, but once you wash it off, you’re left with rejuvenated and smooth skin.

The way it works is through what they describe as a triple-action manual, chemical and enzymatic exfoliating treatment that treats a dull, ageing, and congested complexion in three ways: exfoliates with Pumpkin Enzyme, reveals with Alpha Hydroxy Acid and polishes with Aluminum Oxide Crystals. It seriously helps even out the appearance of your skin tone, smooth the look of fine lines and wrinkles to reveal skin that looks smoother, younger, radiant and revitalised.

Sephora AED 213

New Zealand’s favourite ethical, sustainable and socially responsible skincare brand.

The Trilogy brand was founded in New Zealand, by Sarah Gibbs and Catherine de Groot, two sisters who became enamoured with natural skin care and especially rosehip oil. I’ve been using Trilogy products on and off for about a decade but have switched back to them because I struggled to find a skin care brand that I could completely trust with the bump. If you’ve got sensitive or combination skin I really can’t recommend their products enough, and there/s plenty to choose from. Rose Hip Oil, cleansers, body washes and night cremes are all available online if you can’t find a stockist in person.
