What Successful Women Do Instead of Self-Care

Self care, I'm Anna Roberts, Computer, Boss, Lady

Look at any life coach, aspirational blogger or even yogi on social media and the term “self-care” has become one of the most used words and hashtags. It usually is paired with images of scented candles, face masks, healthy bowls and cups of herbal tea. Don’t get me wrong, they promote essential aspects of health and body positivity but I want to share with you five elements you should include in your life, that don’t need to be justified by a treat or trend!

  • Indulge regularly

Choosing to do something just because you want to is one of the most liberating things you can do yourself. Think of ordering that hot chocolate, indulging in a piece of cake or booking yourself in for a massage at 5 pm on a Monday night. Just, because!

  • Accepting flaws

No-one is exempt from insecurities and pressures, but you can change the way you think about your differences. Accept, accentuate, appreciate, and live with them — maybe even love them, instead of trying to change them. There’s an exceptional, unforgettable quality about a person who’s confident in what makes them unique.

  • Wear what you like

Some people are trendsetters and others are trend followers. Knowing what looks good on you, sticking to the same style and not blowing your budget on every seasonal trend means you’ll be able to own your self-expression and have a unique visual aspect to everything you do in business. Fashion trends are great but only if they work for personal style and comfort.

  • Be picky about who you surround yourself with

Friendships are different to business associates. They are deep, meaningful, and lifelong and require care and attention from both parties. Don’t get sucked into a massive amount of toxic, energy-sucking conversations or be questioning who has your back. Life and business are too short to be questioning everyone’s motives.

  • Stick to a routine

Know what works for you, and stick to it. Morning walks or a lunchtime gym session? Food prepping on the weekend or buying a salad at work? Everyone works to a different rhythm, find yours and make them you’re non-negotiable to be able to get the best out of your business and life.
